How does the Metro 1 Green Building Resource Center select products?

Before resources, products and informational materials are made available to our visitors each product must pass a screening test relevant to the product and that coincides with green industry standards. Some standards that we incorporate include Green Seal, Energy Star, Forest Stewardship Council, and Cradle to Cradle. In addition, the Metro 1 Green Building Resource Center has developed our own minimum standard screening requirements. This screening process includes a detailed survey that determines how ‘green’ a product may be by defining certain characteristics such as the products efficiency, recycled content, rapidly renewable materials content, emissions and effects on the environment. All informational materials, including but not limited to brochures, flyers and information sheets are carefully read to ensure the content is aligned with the vision and ideals of the Metro 1 Green Resource Center.

What are the benefits of having a product, resource or informational materials at the Metro 1 Green Building Resource Center?

The Metro 1 Green Building Resource Center is beneficial to product manufacturers, distributors and salespeople for a number of reasons. The Center allows a manufacturer, distributor or salesperson to showcase his or her respective product, resource or informational materials to a targeted audience of green building professionals including designers, architects, engineers, contractors, business owners, homeowners, property owners and managers, local and state officials in addition to educators, students and the local green community. There is no other location in the City of Miami that offers a one-stop shop for the community to learn about products available to them in a single space.

The Metro 1 Green Resource Center provides a place for the community and the persons described above to become more educated and guided on the practices of green building and green products. As more and more awareness is created there becomes a higher demand for green building products and practices, which in turn drives up sales for products that may otherwise be overlooked or un-researched.

The Metro 1 Green Resource Center allows product manufacturers, distributors and salespeople to connect with the community and give-back. The Metro 1 Green Building Resource Center offers free training and seminars that are open to the public. In addition, the Center hosts events that can range from professional networking events to green awareness seminars, all events are highly attended and increase traffic throughout the center. Lastly, the Metro1 Green Resource Center is working with local schools and non-profit organizations to educate the youth on green building practices and products encouraging cost-free field trips and outreach programs that include beautifying schools by planting trees, etc.
